December-2014-featured

Today we’re taking a look at the excellent Arcade Block for December 2014. We’ve reviewed two Arcade Blocks so far this year and this third one is sure to continue on the trend of delivering a great subscription block experience worth the asking price. This month’s block includes items from Nintendo, Halo, Valve, and Sega. Considering how awesome the last couple of months have been for this block, it’s hard to believe that this one takes it to the next level, but it does.

As always, we’re going to list item by item and let you know our thoughts on them. So, let’s get started.

Touch Control Joystick

mobilejoystick-december-2014

We’ve all played those mobile games that want you to utilize your thumb to make your character move on the screen, right? Of course we have. Well, this handy little Touch Control Joystick is not only a keychain, but it’s also a great innovation for mobile game users around the world. All you simply do is stick the joystick over the control circle on your phone or tablet and the little suction cup will keep it in place. Then, just like a real joystick, you can move it in any direction you want and your character on screen will move accordingly.

Honestly, this sounds like a niche trinket and it is. However, it delivers on doing exactly what it sets out to do and that makes it a great addition to December 2014′s Arcade Block. You may not use this all of the time, but as a novelty and if you keep it on your keychain (it does look cool), you may actually surprise yourself in how many times you actually use it. We definitely approve.

Halo Lanyard

This will probably be a short entry because we’ve all seen and worn a lanyard before. This Halo lanyard comes with the standard ID sleeve and an extremely cool charm as well. As you can guess, it goes around your neck and you can wear it with style. If you’re going to a convention and that convention has a boring lanyard with your ID tag on it, this will be perfect to swap it out with — otherwise, this really doesn’t have much use to it other than hanging on the wall or something. It’s not the greatest item, but it has its purpose. We’re sure Halo fans will enjoy it regardless.

Legend of Zelda Figure: Tetra

We also received a random box Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass figure as well. Our character inside was Tetra. Considering we also have Link from a previous box, this is going to go great on our desk beside him. Yes, our picture above sucks, sorry about that. Tetra is pretty well detailed given the size of the item and while it’s not a premium figure, it doesn’t take up much room on your desk and it still looks good.

Random box toys seem to be increasing in popularity, so it’s no surprise that Arcade Block is starting to include them in their blocks. It’s a great addition for gaming fans and it’s something tangible to look at. We’re fans.

Sonic the Hedgehog Magnets

These are badass. Each item is its own magnet and you just peel them off like a sticker. You can create your own scene or just be completely random. They’re made out of great magnet material and they feel like they’ll last an extremely long time. I was kind of surprised when I saw these in my Block because they’re not something I’d expect to see or something I’d go out of my way to buy myself. That’s what makes these Arcade Blocks so awesome; getting items that you’d never think twice about.

These Sonic the Hedgehog Magnets are fantastic. Gaming fans who have a fridge (100% hopefully) are going to be blown away by these if they ordered a block this month. If you didn’t and you own a fridge, you should probably just pick these bad boys up all on your own.

Aperture Science Scarf

If you’re a gamer, there is a strong chance you’ve played Portal or Portal 2. If you have, you know all about the dastardly company known as Aperture Laboratories. Whether you’re a fan or not of this deceiving scientific company doesn’t matter because this scarf is amazing. You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s incredibly soft and also very warm. Living in Texas, it’s going to be extremely unlikely that I’ll get much use of it, but I’ll be damned sure to use it any time the temperature isn’t a million degrees (like today).

If I’m being honest, this one blew me away. I know Arcade Blocks throw T-Shirts your way, but I never expected to get an awesome, full-length scarf included in the same block. This scarf feels like it paid for the block all on its own.

Super Smash Bros Brawl City

Brawl-City-December-2014

Out of the three months we’ve reviewed so far of the Arcade Block, this is our favorite shirt yet! Super Smash Bros is a massive franchise and that’s evident by sales of the game and how quickly the Amiibo toys are flying off the shelves. This Super Smash Bros inspired T-Shirt is a play on Grand Theft Auto Vice City and I love it.

I get all of my Arcade Block t-shirts in my GF’s size so that she gets something out of each block, but now I’m feeling quite jelly. This is definitely one shirt I’d like to have gotten that I could wear. It looks sharp, feels great, and even if you’re not a fan, I bet you could re-sell this shirt for the price of the entire block, if not more. Arcade Block nailed this month’s shirt and that makes me excited to see what next month’s shirt can be because it’s going to be hard to top.

Will We Continue to Subscribe?

Yes, obviously. If you’ve read the reviews of our two blocks so far and you’ve read this one, it’s easy to see the value you get for your $19.99+Shipping. The value is beyond what you’re paying and it always seems to be items that you’d be willing to buy yourself or you’d love to get as a gift. Nerd Block is doing a fantastic job delivering a blind subscription block to gamers and if they continue to do so, it’s going to surprise nobody that this quickly becomes the go to block for gamers anywhere they’ll ship them. These make great gifts, awesome presents to yourself, and just a nice surprise in the mail each month.

We’ll definitely be continuing our subscription.
